The August meeting of Frome Ladies Club was opened by Christine Cornaby who introduced the speaker for the evening, Eve Tigwell.
Jenny Boorer reports, “Eve said she was a member of BTO, The British Trust for Ornithology, an organisation founded in 1932 for the study of birds in the British Isles.
“BTO garden birdwatchers have charted the decline of the house sparrow, the rise of the woodpigeon and have alerted conservationists to the impact of an emerging disease in greenfinches.
“Eve gave facts and figures for a large number of birds from the ever-popular robin to the less popular pigeon. She was thanked by Christine Cornaby.
“Refreshments were served by hostesses Di Webster, Sandra Dowie, Chris Shillabear and Leslie Hill.
“The raffle was won by Janette Mogford, Rachael Joyce, Di Webster, Janice Langman and Carol Dufton.
“The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 26th September when the speaker will be Stewart, living out of a skip.
“The October meeting will take the form of a silent auction, proceeds to go to our charity for the year, MS Society Bath and District Group. Members are asked to please bring along items they no longer require, unwanted gifts, etc to be sold to help swell the fund.”
