FROME Lions Club has raised £3,750 for the town council’s Ukraine appeal.
A total of £1,875 was raised through donations given to the Lions collecting for the appeal at the local supermarket, Asda. The club then decided to ‘match fund’ the collection, bringing the total raised to £3,750.
Lions member, Mike Geake reports, “On Friday 19th and 20th March, Frome Lions were out collecting at the ASDA store in Frome in support of Frome Town Council’s appeal in support for our twin town in Poland, Rabka-Zdrój.
“They along with many other European towns are in a position to be able to offer first response help as they are 150 miles from the border and have already extended the hand of friendship to bring over 500 Ukrainian refugees to their town. Thanks to the generosity of shoppers, a total of £1,875 was raised over the two days.
“Subsequently at their latest meeting it was agreed that the Lions should match fund what was collected, so a total of £3,750 has now been donated to the town council’s appeal fund.
“Frome Lions would like to thank all of the ASDA Frome customers who generously donated to the appeal and also the store itself for allowing the collection to take place.”
