Midsomer Norton 1st XI 122 all out (42.2 overs). Frome 1st XI 105 all out (37 overs). Midsomer Norton 1st XI win by 17 runs
MIDSOMER Norton won the toss and elected to bat on a wet wicket in the local derby against Frome.
They got off to the worst possible start losing 3 wickets with only 4 runs on the board. After a great spell from Lett and Furlong, it left the Norton middle and tail needing to wag to get the hosts into a competitive position. Jake Rowe scored a well-paced 25, however it was Filer who guided the hosts up to a competitive score of 122 with his 33 not out. The Frome bowlers will have been left disappointed not to have bowled Midsomer Norton out for less having had them on the ropes.
In reply Frome got off to a similar start with both openers playing loose shots and leaving themselves two wickets down with the score on just 6. Jenkins and Sam Croker looked to have steered the game into Frome’s favour but both were dismissed leaving them 48-5.
The home side’s spinners Robbins, Rowe and Sutton kept it tight in the middle overs and applied a lot of pressure on the Frome batters who struggled to score on a slow pitch. Eventually the pressure was too much for the batters as they lost a flurry of wickets and were eventually bowled out for 105, leaving themselves bitterly disappointed.
• Next fixture: Saturday 21st August, Winterbourne 1st XI (Home), 12.30pm – . Frome’s last home game of the season.
