Frome Community Lottery gave out grants to four local organisations at its annual grant presentation evening this week.
The successful grant applicants were; The Pod, Active and in Touch, Frome Focus Counselling and Frome Swimming Club.
The largest amount went to the swimming club, who, despite their long history in Frome, have never received a grant from the Frome Community Lottery before. They were in need of new starting blocks for competition and training. The club members had raised a substantial amount of money themselves and were pleased to receive this grant towards the £6,000 needed.
Volunteer welfare officer, Liz Mcculloch said, “Frome Swimming Club is delighted by the community lottery funding received. The swimmers and members’ vision to purchase new starting blocks has been given a significant boost and has now enabled the club to replace the worn/unfit for purpose blocks. All swimmers will benefit from this new equipment now and in the future. We are thankful and would encourage everyone to help the community lottery help other clubs“.
Grant funding comes entirely from the proceeds of the Frome Lottery. Participants spend £1 a week with the chance of winning cash prizes of up to £25,000. Of this, 50% is available to support community groups in the Frome area. In the last year, over 100 people in Frome have won prizes. Joining forms are available from Frome Library or on the trust’s website www.fromecommunitytrust.btck.co.uk. or by calling Sue on 01373 462431
Sue Worringham, chair of the lottery said, “The trustees of the lottery are always impressed by the range of activities going on in Frome and by the wide range of organisations working to improve facilities for the people of Frome and the villages around.
“It would be great if we were able to give grants to even more local organisations. They all do such excellent work towards making Frome such a good place to live. This will only be possible if more local people join the lottery, so please consider joining, knowing that half of what you pay weekly comes directly back to Frome groups. You might even win some prizes!”
