LOCAL Frome man, and owner of Falcon Fitness gym in town, Dean ‘the great’ White, won the Mr Universe title at a major bodybuilding competition in Coventry last month.
Dean grabbed the number one spot in the pro bodybuilding class and was crowned Physical Culture Association (PCA) universe pro bodybuilding champion, which he qualified for following his previous success of winning the British PCA finals.
Dean said, “I’ve been competing in these kinds of competitions since 2015 – I won the British finals in 2018, but there has been a break since Covid restrictions were put in place, so it feels good to be back, and winning always helps!
“It was so good to perform alongside athletes from around the world, the competition really steps up at this level but luckily, I managed to do enough.
“Preparation for this challenge took about 15 weeks, it takes about that long to cut down all the body fat and get really lean. Dehydration takes place on the last two days, and I found myself glued to the bike, trying to do as much cardio as possible.”
Dean collected £2,500 for winning the championship, which was held in Coventry at the Building Society Arena on the 15th May. His next challenge will be to qualify for the Mr Olympia championship in Las Vegas – a competition that draws the very best bodybuilders from across the world.
Dean added, “The biggest show is the Olympia in Vegas, and I’m hoping to qualify for that by the end of this year. I have an upcoming show in Portugal that I have to win before I can start thinking about this, but it’s in the back of my mind for sure.
