Frome mayor’s 260-mile charity bike ride to France

THE Mayor of Frome, Dickon Moore, accompanied by three other cycling enthusiasts from Frome – David Herbert, Dylan Etherington and Steve Hall – completed a gruelling 3-day ride last week, which went from Frome to Château-Gontier, Frome’s French twin town. 

The 260-mile ride, including one epic 110-mile day, was a great success. On the second day of the ride, after disembarking from the ferry and immediately cycling 50 miles, the cyclists enjoyed a well-deserved and typically French 2 ½ hour lunch with supportive French friends in Rennes. This put their arrival in Château-Gontier, 60 miles later, back by some time, but their welcoming French hosts greeted them with a round of applause and a champagne reception when they arrived in the twin town after dark.

As well as being great fun and a chance to strengthen ties between the two communities, the ride was part of the Mayor’s ongoing fund-raising campaign for his three charities – FROGS, Openstorytellers and Friends of the River Frome
