THE Mayor of Frome, Dickon Moore, accompanied by three other cycling enthusiasts from Frome – David Herbert, Dylan Etherington and Steve Hall – completed a gruelling 3-day ride last week, which went from Frome to Château-Gontier, Frome’s French twin town.
The 260-mile ride, including one epic 110-mile day, was a great success. On the second day of the ride, after disembarking from the ferry and immediately cycling 50 miles, the cyclists enjoyed a well-deserved and typically French 2 ½ hour lunch with supportive French friends in Rennes. This put their arrival in Château-Gontier, 60 miles later, back by some time, but their welcoming French hosts greeted them with a round of applause and a champagne reception when they arrived in the twin town after dark.
As well as being great fun and a chance to strengthen ties between the two communities, the ride was part of the Mayor’s ongoing fund-raising campaign for his three charities – FROGS, Openstorytellers and Friends of the River Frome
The Mayor would like to thank everyone who has donated. You can still show your support to the cyclists by visiting their sponsorship page at http://tinyurl.com/ oatfedp
Cllr Moore would also like to personally give thanks to the Mayor of Château-Gontier, Philippe Henry, and all the councillors who kindly looked after the cyclists, for their warmth and generosity. Thanks as well go to his three cycling comrades for their support and companionship.
