Tues. 5th November: Frome Stars 31, Bath 1s 28
Facing lashing rain and a slippery court, this was going to be a tough game but fortunately we came out with a bang and despite numerous errors from both sides due to weather we finished the first quarter two goals up.
No changes going into the second quarter. GD Lucy made an impact in defence with some impressive tips. She had her work cut out against a very nifty, agile and accurate GA. Despite our best efforts we ended the second quarter two goals down. Some changes were made at half-time and with some fresh legs on court we entered the third quarter.
A very tall Bath defender with excellent rebound stats was taking advantage of our missed shots and Frome were having to work hard to turn the ball over to regain possession. Pulling ahead, then trailing again, the third quarter ended two goals down. It was time to pull our socks up!!
The fourth quarter saw Liv back on as GS. The score swung as we regained the lead, then fell behind again. C Hannah and WA Laura brought the fight with some exceptional mid court defensive play that regained us possession. A lovely little run of goals when it mattered and Frome brought it home.
Shout out to players’ player WD Gi, who didn’t put a foot wrong.
Another win for Stars, a great team effort. POM – Hannah. PP – Gi
Diamonds vs Chippenham Jaguars
Frome faced Chippenham Jaguars after almost a month off in pouring rain.
Due to the weather, we were caught out a few times with rushing the ball and as a result having opportunities (literally) slip through our fingers.
Our attacking end did a fantastic job working well to receive the ball and getting some great rebounds despite our opponents having the height advantage. Defensively we were strong with every player applying pressure and steadying the play to help our defence to pick off balls.
Overall it was a close game, in very wet conditions but the persistence and patience of Frome Diamonds was rewarded with the win! Final score 24-17 to Frome
Matilda Colin was awarded the player of the match and Aiyana Scott picked up players’ player.
Frome Stars vs Spires
Lashing rain but remarkably, the court wasn’t over saturated and remained good enough to play on.
A fairly even first quarter saw both teams make mistakes due to the weather, just keeping the ball in hand was a challenge. Defence worked hard to turn ball and get back to basics with steady, short passes up through court.
Great communication from GK Lucy helped to guide WD Gi and GD Freya into effective positions and the defensive play strengthened as the game went on.
Heading into the second quarter saw the introduction of WA Ella. Despite being her debut for Frome she worked seamlessly with C Hannah and GA Jimmy and GS Nat with some lovely balls right where they like them!
Still leading going into the third quarter the rain upped its game and players started to slip and slide. Liv returned to court and displayed her ever-calm shooting abilities creating a run of goals that allowed Frome to really pull away into the lead.
A more serious slip from the opponents GS caused a pause in play which ultimately led to ending the game early. Conditions had got too dangerous and player safety was more important.
Final score: 31 – 15 to Frome. POM: Hannah. PP: Jimmy
