Frome Park men’s team played their first friendly game of the season at home on Saturday 23rd April against Knowle, and ran out winners with a 86 – 66 victory, winning on 3 rinks and losing on only 1.
On a dry but chilly afternoon with some sunshine, all players had a chance to get used to the green which played quite slow after some heavy rain the previous day. Even so there was at times some good bowling and competitive play, a good opening for the summer season.
Frome’s winning rinks were;
Wayne Pitts, Kim Pitts, Terry Drew and Nigel Hunt 26 – 16
Peter Wheeler, Brian Indoe, Dave Whitehead and Peter Jennings 22 – 12
John Pritchard, Dave Butler, Trevor Elms and Steve West 21 – 16
The following day the club held their ‘Introduce a friend to bowls day’. This was a very successful event with around 25 guests trying out playing bowls along with members giving useful tuition and assisting on the green during the day.
Everybody seemed to enjoy the experience and the friendly welcoming atmosphere of the club. Many of them are keen to continue to learn about the game and have signed up to attend coaching sessions over the next four weeks on Saturday mornings between 10.00am and midday.
Anybody else interested in coming along to these sessions will be very welcome to attend, the coaching sessions will cost £5 for the four weeks and will be deducted from your membership fees if you decide to join the club afterwards.
