Frome Park had some early season success with a home win for the men in their first friendly game of the summer against Knowle on Saturday.
Both teams appreciated the pleasant weather and enjoyed some good bowling on a green that was running well which is a credit to the hardworking team of members who have put in many hours during the closed season preparing the green and it is showing real dividends already.
The match was close with the teams having two winning and two losing rinks each but the result went in favour of the Frome side by 92 shots to 68 due to some late high scores. Frome Park’s best winning rink was Wayne Pitts, Ian Buchan, John Curtis & Nigel Hunt who were always in control and slowly took charge to build up a good winning margin, finally running out victors by 31 – 12.
Next up for the men are two friendlies, first an away game at local rivals Frome Selwood on Friday afternoon, followed by a home match the following day against Castle Cary.
On Sunday the club held their, ‘have a go at bowls invitation day’ as part of this year’s recruitment drive, again they had some nice sunny weather to enjoy.
It is hoping that this event along with a four week coaching course where our qualified coaches will take new players through the basics of the game of bowls will attract some new members to the club. In the past couple of years this has been very popular and Frome Park has picked up some new bowlers who have appreciated the open and friendly approach the club has shown, it has in fact been very successful and helped the club increase their membership to be as large now as it has ever been.
If you happened to miss this opportunity but are still interested in trying bowls or would like to sign up for the coaching course then please contact either club secretary Ian Buchan on 01373 452069 or club coach Dave Whitehead on 01373 452567.
