AFTER two previous attempts having to be cancelled due to the pandemic, the Frome branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) has managed to say a big thank you to the people who have helped with the Poppy Appeal during the past two years.
“With kind permission of Frome Cricket Club, an afternoon tea was held to enable the branch to say a big thank you to those who helped, some who are RBL members, but many who are not,” said a spokesperson for Frome RBL.
“As well as the usual sandwiches and lovely selection of cakes, Claire Peppiatt, the community fund raising manager for the Southwest RBL, was able to join us and presented long service awards to several helpers.
“There was also a special award presented by David Hughes, the chair of the Royal Navy Association to the person deemed to have excelled in the last appeal. The recipient this year was Tony Newlyn, who in his 10th year of helping, stood in for people who for various reasons were suddenly unable to help at the tables set up at three of the large supermarkets in town.
“The money raised by the Poppy Appeal goes toward helping past and present service personnel from all branches of the armed forces and their families in times of need.
“If you would like to help in any way, please contact the Poppy Appeal organiser, Richard Fry, on 07899 668433, or richard@rjfry.co.uk. It doesn’t have to be a huge commitment, even just standing or sitting at a table for an hour will help those who served our country and now need help.”
