FROME RFC held its end-of-season awards dinner last month which saw the presentation of the club’s annual awards.
Director of rugby, Garrie Webster said, “The teams finished up the league season at the Frome RFC Clubhouse which welcomed players, coaches and backroom staff for the annual end of season awards dinner.
“The awards dinner brings an end to the league 2023/24 campaign, and overall, it has been hugely successful. Fielding three senior sides nearly every week has been a huge achievement and something the club and players can be very proud of.
“We’ve had players play across all three teams this season, with players continually moving up or down a team upon request to help make sure we fielded sides. We’ve had some of our academy players make the transition to senior rugby, and certainly not look out of place, Max Stickley, Billy James, Rowan Walton and more all made their 1st XV debuts, which has been exciting to see, and shows some great strength in depth going forward.
“A few thank-yous must go to our three team managers, Trevor Osborne, Andy Vince and Simon Bates and our fantastic physio Alex Joiner – thanks for keeping us out on the pitch.
“Our two senior men’s coaches, Dom Jones and JJ Gagiano, have put in an immense amount of work in all of us, we can’t thank you enough. The captains, Geoff Taylor, Phil Clarke/Max Stickley and Bryan Loftus, have led their sides brilliantly and I commend them on all their efforts.
“I’d finally like to thank our principal sponsor, I.M.S Limited and Ian Regler for the continuing to support to us. We were delighted to have him join us for the evening.”
The awards went to:
1st XV: Player of the Year – James Howard. Players’ Player – Alex Mallon. Most Improved – Sam Cassidy.
2nd XV: Player of the Year – Stuart Elliott; Players’ Player – Billy James; Most Improved – Kyle Williamson.
3rd XV: Player of the Year – Rob Tunstall. Players’ Player – Toby Reilly. Most Improved – Al Fisher.
Club Awards: Top Points Scorer – Henry Bull; Trainer of the Year – Max Stickley. Rookie of the Year – Billy James. Clubman of the Year – Shadow.
The club added, “With the domestic league season over, thoughts naturally turn towards the summer break and a well-earned rest for the players and staff at Frome RFC. Unfortunately for the director of rugby, Garrie Webster, summer breaks are just a bit of a pipe dream. Whilst others will be putting their feet up, Webster and the backroom team will be planning for next season and setting targets for the upcoming campaign.”
