THE Rotarians of the two Frome clubs collected donations of £2,000 for the Rotary (Somerset) Flood Disaster Fund on Saturday 15th February.
The Rotary club reports, “The two clubs are delighted by this result which shows the generosity of the people of Frome and their willingness to support those facing hardship because of this local disaster. The donations will form part of a larger Rotary relief fund for the Somerset floods.
“We have all been made aware of the hardships that many local people are suffering and once the rains stop and the water levels have gone down, the enormity of the damage will become apparent. Rotary in Somerset is part of the Emergency Voluntary Agencies Group which is managed by the Civil Contingencies Unit of Somerset County Council.
“Rotary clubs around the disaster areas, together with many other volunteers, agencies and the army, have been working hard on the variety of tasks thrown up by the flooding crisis. They have also been offering accommodation for those who are displaced, sourcing dry animal feed, recovering cars, creating usable walkways, helping with the shopping and generally making life a little easier for those affected.
“To help with the inevitably costly clean-up and remedial operations Rotary has set up the Flood Relief Fund to meet the needs where hardships and circumstances warrant specific aid. A small team will assess individual cases and decide on the awards to ensure the most effective use of the Flood Relief Fund.”
Donations can also be sent to either of the local clubs at their meeting locations as published on the web. For the Rotary Club of Frome Selwood the details are on www.fromeselwoodrotary.org.uk. For the Rotary Club of Frome visit www.fromerotary. co.uk
