Frome Rotary Club president thanks Professor Nigel Brown for his interesting talk to the club on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).
Professor Brown explained that while some people were concerned about the use of GMOs more widely, unlike Europe, the United States had embraced GM technology more widely and much of their soya and cotton is genetically modified for resistance to herbicides or to pests. He explained that he hoped that by explaining its utility that there would be more confidence in the technology. His vision was that the increased crop growth would then help feed the world’s growing population and that GM technology could be used more widely to produce medicines.
