Frome runner Alan Brawn ventured up north to Manchester to take part in the Manchester Half Marathon on 21st May.
Following a fast, flat route that takes runners past the city’s iconic landmarks, Alan crossed the finish line in an impressive 01:54:10. The same day saw the return of a local classic, the Dilton Dash.
A number of Frome’s club runners turned out for this 10k mixed terrain race with Ronan Ferguson storming home in 00:46:46 to bag seventh position overall. He was followed by Emma Surridge in 00:51:56 (second female), Julie Chilvers in 00:58:36 and Emma Evans in 01:07:31.
On the following Saturday 27th May, another local favourite, The Bratton Hilly, rounded out the month perfectly. Frome fielded a strong contingent for this challenging 11k multi-terrain course, a fact that was reflected in the team result, with Frome Running Club finishing first in the team rankings. Leading the charge once again was Ronan Ferguson, who posted a speedy time of 00:49:27. Hot on his heels was Paul Horton, who crossed the line in 00:51:19. Ted Sprules (MV70) was the next Frome runner to finish in 00:52:32, earning himself first position in age category. David Alsford completed the winning team result with his time of 00:54:04.
As the temperatures climbed at the start of June, so too did the racing terrain. On Saturday 3rd June, another Frome runner found themselves north of the Watford Gap, this time in North Yorkshire for the 11k Pen y Ghent Fell Race. Emma Surridge (FV40) took on the 1,700ft of ascent and descent, finishing in 01:14:52 to bag second in age category. Closer to home, on Sunday 4th June, Alexander Fisher decided to go under instead of over the city of Bath in the Two Tunnels 10K race. Alexander charged through the repurposed Somerset and Dorset Railway tunnels in an impressive 00:43:00.
Frome Running Club offers both on and off-road training and welcomes new members, whatever the ability. For more details, visit www.fromerunningclub.co.uk.
