FROME Running Club members have had a very busy month in October as runners competed in a number of races across the country, covering various distances and terrains.
The club reports, “On Sunday 30th October, Lynn Brand and Rachel Bala completed a 10-mile race entitled The Stickler. This involved tackling the infamous Stickle Path and ascending three peaks along the Stour Valley. Lynn finished in 1:49:25 and Rachel in 1:56:36. Very well-done ladies!
“On Sunday 16th October, Barrie Knight and Jason Burns travelled to Oxford to compete in the Oxford Half Marathon. Barrie (M70-74) finished in a stunning time of 1:52:36 (beating his last time by a mighty second!). Meanwhile, Jason Burns (M 50-54) finished the course in 1:56:13.
“Ben Spicer and Neil Grist ran the local Bath Half Marathon, with Ben (M 40+) finishing the course in 1:53:11 and Neil (M55+) in 2:11:31 “Lucy Heath ventured up to York to participate in the Yorkshire marathon, also on Sunday 16th October. She completed the course in a satisfying 4:19:16, commenting on the beautiful scenery throughout the course.
“On Sunday 9th October Barrie Knight ran the DB Max Lightning Bolt 10k finishing in a time of 48:47.1 which earned him 3rd place MV70+. “Ann Denman was the sole Frome RC representative who ran the scenic and sunny London Parks Half Marathon in a time of 2:12:22.
“Frome Runners were out in force on 9th October to run the Westbury Lions 10km challenge. Their results were as follows: Ted Sprules 43:04 (9th place), Andrew Smallbone 44:44 (18th place), Emma Surridge 47:17 (3rd female), Julie Chilvers 51:52 (46th place), Sarah Smallbone 53:31 (57th place), Lynn Brand 53:57 (58th place), Dave Perrett 54:38 (61st place), Emma Evans 59:13 (72nd place), Paul Goodwin 59:48 (80th place), and Alan Brawn 67:30 (94th place).”
