A part-time Frome sales assistant in Ellenbray (Frome) and Lush (Bath) will be hosting an informal fundraising evening of live jazz with free refreshments at Holy Trinity Church, Frome (BA11 3DE) on Saturday 14th December at 7.00pm.
Mark Loveless will be travelling to Tanzania in January to work with Go Make A Difference, a partner of the Christian relief and development charity Tearfund, for five months.
Mark said, “The event will provide me with the opportunity to help fund the development projects I will be involved with in Tanzania. It is vital that I reach the £300 target set by Go MAD, as all of the money raised will go directly into the development projects I will be involved in; into materials, medicine, hospital visits, tools, wages for the local workers etc, and not the cost of my trip.
“In light of the recent crisis in the Philippines, I will also be giving 10% of all cash donations from the event to Tearfund’s Typhoon Haiyan emergency response fund. I hope that there will be a good turn out and that people will bring their family and friends to enjoy a fun and relaxed evening of Jazz.”
Mark, who plays saxophone in several local big bands including the Wiltshire Youth Jazz Orchestra, added, “Whilst in Tanzania I will be helping with many of Go MAD’s projects, such as providing homecare to those with disability and HIV/AIDS, supporting the work of local orphanages and schools through teaching, providing resources and furnishing classrooms, assisting the Rehema project in raising a sustainable income for women in poverty, and being involved in the small scale building and development projects which make up a large proportion of Go MAD’s work.
“The money we raise as a team will be used to support these projects. For example, £900 can pay for a pit latrine toilet, and just £450 can buy a water tank, providing clean water to entire communities, preventing water-borne diseases and giving people more opportunity to work or be in education.
“This is a unique opportunity to work alongside people from a different culture, who have requested help from young volunteers, to fight poverty and make a difference where it’s needed most. I’m really excited to get out there.”
Refreshments and entry are free, however as this is a fundraising event any donations would be much appreciated. Mark is also offering a hand-car wash service to anyone who is willing to donate to Go MAD’s work.
