MEMBERS of the Frome Society for Local Study have paid tribute to the society’s patron.
Katherine Ashworth left the society her house in Wine Street when she died in 1974 – the only recompense she requested was a red rose on her grave on Midsummer’s Day.
This year, the occasion was marked by Alastair and Marie-Louise Macleay, who placed a red rose on Katherine Ashworth’s grave at the Dissenters Cemetery.
On behalf of the society, Sara Morris reports, “Alastair is a former chairman of the Society and is still very active taking responsibility for the Society’s publications and is very knowledgeable about local history, particularly the buildings of Frome.”
