A strong line up from Stars, who are sponsored by Dennis Maps, saw Sophie Woolley and Alice Millard take control of the shooting circle, with perfect feeds in from Sophie Cox and Amelia Pratten, this unit were on fire from the word go.
Defensive-wise saw Ellie Gibbs start as GK along with Kathy Dredge and Sheri Pleasants. The first interception of the match was made by Gibbs, which was closely followed by 2 tips from Pleasants and tips from Dredge. With the girls working miracles down court, the quarter finished 23-10.
With this team on fire, combinations were kept and the girls continued to stun the sidelines. Dredge made a total of 5 interceptions just in this quarter, closely followed by Pleasants making another 2, and Gibbs tipping the ball against their shooter. Attackers of Cox and Pratten were also on fire bringing the ball down court to shooters Woolley and Millard who did not disappoint, turning this effort from our centre court players into goals, finishing the quarter ahead by 41 – 23.
With a convincing goal difference and fresh legs on the squad, combinations were changed at half time. Georgia Cox and Hannah Dredge came into shoot. Sadly after 3 mins on court Hannah went down with an injury and had to come off (but not without 100% shooting record). Georgia continued to put up goals with Woolley.
Defence saw Molly White at WD and Guy into WA. Interceptions from White and tips from Guy and Sophie meant we remained in front with a score of 56-35 going into the last quarters. Millard returned to shoot in the 4th quarter, showing our versatility; Gibbs came into shoot and Woolley moved to defence.
Although we let Chippenham find a flow in the last quarter, we didn’t stop performing; with tips and interceptions from Guy, Pleasants and Kathy we took home the win. Player of the Match and Players’ Player went to Sophie Cox, whilst the coaches’ pick went to Kathy Dredge .
