Saturday 20th November , Chippenham RFC 27 Frome RFC 18
FROME RFC travelled to Chippenham RFC on Saturday 20th November looking for their first away win of the season.
The visitors started strongly from the kick off, with the forwards carrying hard against a determined defence. However, after several phases, Darrell Thompson broke through the defence, only to be stopped by a great last-ditch tackle, but Frome recycled the ball and Scrum Half, Garrie Webster darted over for the first score.
Chippenham had a penalty to reduce the deficit, but the kick drifted wide. Frome continued to press with some hard running from Centres Mike Rutt and Dav Jones. Eventually the pressure told and Thompson increased the lead with a penalty.
The home side then came back into the game and scored 3 quick tries to lead 17-8 at half time.
Frome started the second half in much the same way; they started the first with forwards led by Captain, Alex Mallon, Elliott Bowler and Player of The Match, Miles Davies, carrying hard and they were rewarded with another penalty by Thompson.
Frome then scored a second try when Thompson cut through the defence to play the ball to Button to score under the posts, the resultant conversion giving Frome a 1 point lead.
However, a lapse of concentration from the kick off gave the home side field position and despite dogged defence, they scored a converted try to retake the lead.
A late penalty for the home side denied Frome a bonus point in a close, hard-fought game.
Frome now look to two games at home and look to turn this narrow defeat into wins. This Saturday, 27th November, Frome RFC welcome 9th place Witney RFC to The Lane.
