FROME did its bit for Children in Need last Friday with various fundraising activities taking place all over the town.
It was a record-breaking night for Children in Need on Friday 13th November, with more than £37million being donated, beating last year’s total of £32.6million.
Staff and pupils at Christ Church First School in Feltham Lane, dressed as superheroes and waited in anticipation in the playground for a surprise visit from Pudsey Bear.
They were also treated to a visit from a helicopter which was due to land on the school field. Unfortunately, the force of the downdraught from the helicopter blades was so strong, that it blew off the roof of a shed, so the landing was abandoned. Thankfully no-one was seriously hurt. The school raised around £290 which is a good increase from last year’s total of £173.
Headteacher Rupert Kaye said, “We are really pleased with the amount, there seemed to be a lot more awareness this year which helped with the fundraising.”
Local group Boogie Kids also got involved with fundraising. Boogie Kids make cards for charity and this year they will send the money to Children in Need.
