Frome Symphony will present a large-scale concert in Frome Festival on Sunday 9th July at 7.30pm in the Cheese and Grain.
The concert opens with Beethoven’s overture Leonore No. 3, famous for its off-stage trumpet calls. This is one of several overtures which Beethoven wrote for his only opera, Fidelio, the heroic tale of a woman who refuses to abandon her husband to die in prison.
This is followed by the Haydn Trumpet concerto, performed by the brilliant young Frome trumpeter, Eliza Talman. Eliza is a former member of the National Youth Orchestra and currently studying at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London. This concerto is one of Haydn’s most popular and tuneful works, and an enjoyable showcase of the soloist’s skill. The concert closes with Bruckner’s fourth symphony, The Romantic.
This huge, spacious work uses the full sound of the orchestra to maximum effect and was a major influence on the epic film composers of more recent times.
Tickets are available from the Frome Festival Box Office and www. fromesymphony.org.uk.
