FROME Talking Newspapers is urgently in need of a new administrator and other helpers.
Since May 1981 blind and partially sighted people in the Frome area have benefitted from the service.
Each week one of the seven Reader Groups gathers at the studio of Frome fm to read items from the Frome Standard and Frome Times.
The recording is transferred to memory sticks by Frome fm technicians and these are then delivered to the 50 plus listeners by the Post Office free of charge.
“FTN is run by a Committee which has in its ranks an administrator whose duties includes maintaining a Register of Listeners, processing the memory sticks and visiting new listeners to introduce them to the memory stick players. This position is soon to become vacant,” explained Gordon Lee from the group.
“The Committee is very eager to recruit a new Administrator and also new members to ensure the continuance of the service provided by FTN and would welcome enquiries from anyone interested in supporting this worthwhile project.
“There are two meetings a year, one in September (AGM) and one in March (Committee).
“For a number of years, for several identifiable reasons, there has also been a steady decline in the number of listeners and the Committee take this opportunity to appeal to the readers of this newspaper to contact FTN with the names of any potential user of this service.”
