A Frome College student has recently returned from Los Angeles, where she met a major record label and worked with an established producer after a TikTok video of her singing gained attention.
Erin Ross-Osborne – also known as Erin Rose – is a Year 12 student studying biology, chemistry and drama. She captured the interest of industry executives when her mum shared a video of her singing on social media.
“I sneakily videoed her singing during lockdown and uploaded it to TikTok, and it blew up,” explained her mum, Kris. “She has been singing since she was tiny but was always too shy to sing, even when I told her she was wonderful.”
Erin travelled to Los Angeles with her parents, meeting the record label and participating in recording sessions with a well-known producer. The label has expressed strong interest in her potential and requested additional recordings, leading to planned follow-up sessions in LA early next year and a meeting with label executives in London this March.
“Two years after I shared the video, I got a message from the producer we are working with now,” says Kris. “We thought it was a scam, but they tried again, so after a lot of research and speaking to other people they work with, we took a leap of faith. We never for a second thought we’d be here when I recorded that video.”
Drawing musical inspiration from artists like Queen and Sabrina Carpenter, along with a “healthy amount” of musical theatre, Erin is set to perform in A Christmas Carol at the Merlin Theatre next month.
“Going to LA was an amazing opportunity that I never imagined I would have,” says Erin. “It’s incredible to see it all picked up, as I never really planned a music career. I love singing and take triple threat and dance classes at Tri.Art [Theatre School and Dance Academy]. If I was going to pursue music, I always thought it would be through musical theatre. My long-term plan has always been to study science at university and have a science-based career, so this all feels very surreal, albeit amazing.”
Kris added, “To say we are proud of her is an understatement. We have been completely wowed by her. The song was not what we expected, and we were blown away by her calm professionalism throughout.
“Everyone we met there commented on her humble and dedicated approach to everything that was thrown at her. For now, we’re all just riding the wave to see where it takes us.”
Erin’s debut single, Not Cute, is set for release on 29th November.
