Sat 5th August. Pre-season friendly. North Leigh 0 Frome Town 5
FROME Town ended their pre-season with a dominant five-goal victory away at North Leigh on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Eynsham Park.
The Robins started positively with quick passing and attacked from the off. Within ten minutes, Frome took the lead when Alex Monks’ perfectly timed through-ball found James Ollis who calmly beat the North Leigh goalkeeper to open the scoring. Chances kept falling with Monks and Ollis both going close in the first half hour.
Frome recovered excellently after a rare attack from their opponents with blocks including a Monks header off the line in what was a near-perfect performance. On the stroke of half time, skipper Sam Teale’s cross found James Ollis, who skilfully turned the defender and finished well to give Frome Town a two-goal lead going into half time.
In the second half, Frome continued where they left off with substitute Ben Griffith going close with an effort which went just wide of the post. Just before the hour mark, the Millers failed to clear a Frome corner and the ball fell to Griffith who tapped past the goalkeeper.
Late in the game, substitute Tom Duffin scored an early goal of the season contender when he fired spectacularly from distance with the outside of the foot and made it 4-0. Frome’s fifth goal came with just over 15 minutes to go when the impressive Joe O’Loughlin crossed the ball for Summerfield to tap in and complete the rout.
