WITH the freezing weather prior to the Christmas break postponing multiple fixtures, it was great to see the much-anticipated return of the annual Paul Lovatt Cup, Town versus Gown fixture on Tuesday 27th December.
Matt Warnock from Frome Rugby Football Club reports, “The inter-club game sees the select Town XV take on the Gown XV, a side made up of returning players who are back in Frome for the holidays.
“The fixture saw a bumper crowd brace the wet weather and filling the clubhouse for an entertaining game, with both sides showing some superb skill and determination. Half time mince pies and port were followed with tries being scored from across the park it was the Gowns XV who edged the win in the final minutes to take home the trophy, which was presented by Paul Lovatt to the side back in the warmth of the clubhouse.
“We’d like to thank everyone involved in organising the fixture, all the players who took part and the great support and cheers from the side-line.”
On Saturday 7th January the Frome RFC Senior Men’s teams are back in league action with the 1st XV travelling away to Newent RFC, the 2nd XV at home against Wimborne RFC 1st XV, whilst the 3rd XV welcome Imperial RFC 2nd XV to The Lane.
