There was a brilliant turn out by Frome athletes, coaches and supporters at the Trowbridge-based Hot Chilli’s Big T Triathlon on Monday 6th May, say Frome Tri Club.
“Competitors took part in Enduro, Sprint and Junior races with lots of PBs and some people taking on longer distances for the first time. As you can see the Froomies look fabulous gathered together in the club colours.
“This sport is open to competitors at all levels, so for anyone looking to have a go, please check out the website for our free two-week trial. The club is so friendly and as well as training elite athletes, it also helps complete beginners in a very inclusive environment.”

Plans are in full swing for Frome Tri Club’s main event, the Frome Triathlon to be held in August, led by their race director, Nigel Lewis.
The club says, “This is an amazing morning with first time competitors participating alongside GB athletes, plus several junior sections which always have good levels of entries. There is a wonderful atmosphere with lots of support from spectators at the finish line.
“We are highlighting this to local people, although this competition also has a very good reputation across the triathlon world. We are always looking for a range of volunteer marshals who get a free t-shirt. The club also has a strong community and social responsibility, our charity for the day will be ‘We Hear You’ . It may seem like a long way off, but some people will want to commence training. Please see below for further details:
“A Sprint Distance Triathlon suitable for all levels. Individual and relay options available. 400m pool swim | 23km bike around beautiful Somerset / Wiltshire countryside | 5km run on road/tracks. We also have TriStar Aquathlon races for children between 8 and 14.
“Race HQ will be at Frome Sports and Fitness Centre, so great facilities and a great event for spectators. There’s always a fantastic atmosphere at the finish line, with cheering, music and food.
“We run a series of familiarisation sessions leading up to the event. In particular, we have several Tri swim courses running on Saturday mornings,, which will get you ready for the event and have you feeling comfortable and confident. These are 6-week progressive sessions from beginner to novice, to improver levels. We also run a coached Saturday swim for those who want to train with a Tri club.
“The event will take place on 18th August, commencing with first swim wave at 7am. Check out the website for more detail and to enter. Frometriclub.co.uk
