The Frome Ukulele Festival culminates with a star-studded concert at The Cheese and Grain on Saturday 23rd March which is open to all, not just those attending the Festival.
There are already 150 tickets sold for the evening concert, so a good atmosphere is guaranteed. Alongside The Mighty Frukes, certainly the largest Ukulele band in Frome, will be the wonderful Opera-lele, who do exactly what it says on the tin – performing wonderful arias from opera, accompanied by the ukulele! Based in Kent, Opera-lele perform all over the world but are a particular favourite in the UK. More local are In Sync. Twins Holly and Sam hail from Yeovil and bring wonderful harmonies to well known songs. Completing the international theme is Andy Dan, a blues man from the Welsh valleys who will bring some earthy soul to the performance stage.
The four main acts will be preceded by the final of The Battle of The Bands – a competition running throughout the afternoon at 23 Bath Street. The final three groups are given just 15 minutes to set up, play and impress the judges (who will take account of audience reaction in their detailed marking scheme.) Tickets for the evening concert are on sale at The River House in Frome and cost £15 (including Street Food) or £10 without food. Children pay £10 (with food) and £5 (without food.) Doors open at 5.30 pm with the stage going live at 6 pm.
During the day, the Festival will be based at Rook Lane Arts, with an Open Mic, a play along session, market stalls and a series of workshops hosted by local hostelries including The Cornerhouse, The Three Swans and The Granary Bar at the George. Tickets for the entire Festival cost £21 (including food which must be booked in advance) or £16 (without food) . Children’s tickets are £13 or £8.
