CARDIAC Risk in the Young (CRY) has received a cheque for £264 from a Frome Half Marathon runner.
Dave Meagor, who is the manager of the Co-op in the Westway Precinct, ran the half marathon last July and collected sponsorship to give to CRY, dedicated to the Julian Wort Memorial Fund.
CRY raises awareness of conditions that can lead to sudden cardiac death.
Shirley Wort, whose 28-year-old son Julian died in 2000, received the cheque from Dave Meagor and gave an update on the family’s fundraising since 2001. She said, “As a family we have now raised £31,616 in total and donated two ECG machines, and two defibrillators in memory of Julian to our hospital and health centre.
“We are hoping to fund a heart screening session through Cardiac Risk in the Young that will enable 14- 35 year olds to be tested for any undetected heart problems.”
