A community centre for young people in Frome showcased its state-of-the-art renovation at a recent launch event.
Frome Youth Community Centre, part of the local charity YMCA Brunel Group, held an official launch on Saturday 14th March, welcoming Frome Mayor Anita Collier, young people and other community members to view the upgrades.
The renovation has transformed the centre on Vallis Road, following an £800,000 grant from the Youth Investment Fund.
The new facilities include a state-of-the-art computer room with a commercial vinyl printer, a fully equipped kitchen and other modern amenities. There is also a new roof, showers, changing rooms and new flooring.
Director of Youth and Community at YMCA Brunel Group, Mark Willcox, said, “These upgrades will not only provide a more welcoming and engaging environment for young people but also improve the overall safety and accessibility of the Frome Youth Community Centre.”
The youth centre is also used by other community groups, including The Pod Youth Club, Frome Table Tennis, Frome Volleyball Club, Pickleball Club, Somerset Drugs and Alcohol Project, Nova Sports and others.
Mark said, “The Frome Youth Community Centre provides a home for a diverse range of groups and organisations delivering vital and vibrant sports, services and activities for the whole community. A number of the clubs have used the centre as their home base for the past 30 years.
“The launch event was a really fantastic day. Many people don’t know that the facility exists on Vallis Road. It is very much in the heart of Frome.”
In addition to the physical improvements, new staff members have enabled the centre to broaden its programming and support services in Frome.
Mark added, “With expanded session offerings, workshops and one-to-one support opportunities, young people of Frome will have greater access to resources and guidance to help them thrive.”
