Frome FM invited community groups to come to the open studios at the Old Fire Station on Thursday 28th January.
From 4.00pm the Frome College Radio Club were live on air with their local ‘drive time’ show (which included weather, local and international news, traffic, music and chat), and by 6.00pm the studios of FromeFM were abuzz with people from a variety of clubs, businesses and groups joining the directors and members of radio station.
The live radio shows continued until 9.00pm with award-winning Dave Watkins and lovely Jen Watkins, FromeFM’s super talented teen presenter Issy F-Hughes and mature radio production student, Alex Hawkins. Visitors could experience the thrill of live radio as each guest was given the opportunity to be interviewed on air and highlight the work of their group.
Sara Vian, a FromeFM member and presenter of the ‘Rock, Roll & Revolution’ show said, “The Frome FM Community Evening was a roaring success the moment we opened the doors with clubs, groups and local businesses queuing up to get in!”
When not on air guests could talk with FromeFM members about show themes and production and how they could support FromeFM and how FromeFM could support them. Some of the groups that joined in were the Sci-Fi Storytellers, Frome Carers, Fair Frome, The Royal British Legion, The Lions, The Air Cadets, the Canoe Club, Freeways School (for learning difficulties), Open-Storytellers, The Westway Cinema and many more.
Geoffrey Mackett, another FromeFM member and presenter of the show, Orient Express said, “FromeFM is a community radio station at the heart of its community and tonight the community became that beating heart by filling the station, engaging with one another as well as the radio station.”
As the evening wound down at 9.00pm, Sara Vian spoke about what the event meant to her. She said, “We at FromeFM are so pleased to have made such good connections with ‘salt of the earth’ local folk, having fun, building community and touching lives, and we look forward to working together dynamically in the future!”
Organiser, Dawn Denton said, “If you were not able to attend the evening, but are eager to get involved in any way – sponsorship, membership, guesting on a show, collaborating on a project with FromeFM to help with funding proposals, or having us come in to work with you at your event, record your talks and concerts, or anything else, please get in touch by emailing hello@frome.fm
“We would love to hear from you!”
