FOR over 10 years, the Frome Big Christmas Get Together has provided community members both young and old with a chance to celebrate Christmas and enjoy a Christmas meal.
And plans are in hand for this year’s event and the organisers would love some help!
Organisers say, “With Christmas being a difficult time for so many, we have helped bring some festive cheer, needed company and great food to our town. This year will be no different. With the impact of COVID-19 and the current challenges continuing to affect people, Christmas will be especially difficult for many, we hope our Big Christmas Get Together will help make Christmas 2021 a special day for many.
“In previous years our Christmas Day lunch has been a real celebration, an opportunity for both participants and volunteers to be part of a very festive day. Unfortunately this year we cannot run the big event in person, however, it is incredibly important to us that we continue to reach out and support the people of Frome during this festive period.
“Following on from the success of last year’s hampers, this year we will continue to provide people with a Christmas lunch hamper. This year if permitted, hampers will be collected from our three locations Trinity Church Hall, Frome Cricket Club and Christ Church School between 11am-1pm with the option for individuals and families to spend some time in each venue celebrating Christmas alongside some festive refresh- ments and good company.
“Last year’s alternative Big Christmas Get Together made a big difference to the people of Frome as one hamper receiver noted ‘it was an acknowledgement in an often self-focused society and times that I have not totally disappeared /become entirely invisible’ and we hope that this year will do the same.
“We would love some help:
“PLANNING: This year will be very different in how we normally run things and we need an amazing organising team to pull this off.
“DONATIONS: We would like to provide around 140 hampers with a Christmas dinner, pudding, festive treats, a gift, and crackers in it. If you would like to work with us to provide any of those things or have any ideas or recommendations of who may like to be involved, please do get in touch.
“VOLUNTEERS: We will need about 20 volunteers to help pack up hampers on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day we need about 30 volunteers to hand out hampers at our various locations alongside drivers and delivery drivers to help drop people at the venues and deliver hampers to participants and if it is allowed to stop for a while and provide some company. It would be great if you are DBS checked.
“RECOMMENDATIONS: If you are a community organisation and you know someone who would like company and a lunch on Christmas Day please get in touch.”
Please get in touch with Rosie at fromechristmas@ gmail.com if you would like to be involved.
