Frome’s first major Gin Festival debuts at the Cheese & Grain this month and has already sold out three sessions spread over two days.
The new event was the idea of the marketing manager and deputy director Tracey Rawlins, who noticed that gin festivals were cropping up in the nearby cities, but she failed to get tickets as they sold out.
“So I decided to run my own festival,” Tracey explains. “As a gin drinker I’ve had great fun curating this festival and sourcing gins from all over the UK and abroad.
“We have some fabulous gins to try from the West Country with some popular names like Dorset’s Conker Gin and also some more unusual gins from Cornwall that have a clotted cream flavour. There will be a total of 70 gins and gin liqueurs to sample, but obviously people need to be responsible and not try to taste them all!
“The shock was the speed at which the tickets sold out. The evening sessions sold out in an hour each and there are waiting lists on each session!”
Along with all the gins there will be live music from Bonne Nouvelle, Three Corners and Jamarca plus an exciting menu from the Grain Café Bar. The festival runs from 30th September to 1st October, but tickets are no longer available.
The next Gin Festival will be the 19th & 20th May 2017 and tickets go on sale on Monday, 12th September. Book online at www.cheeseandgrain.com or call 455420.
