PEOPLE of Frome came out in force last week to showcase their talents for the Britain’s Got Talent TV show.
The popular TV talent show had auditions planned for Monday last week but had so many applicants they had to return for a second day.
Alex Collins, one of the researchers on the show said, “There were so many auditions we had to split it over two days. We’re so happy with what we’ve seen from Frome; thank you to everyone who came along!”
Becky Robinson a producer on the show said, “It was a really good couple of days and the turn out was great.
“We really enjoyed visiting Frome, it’s a lovely place. It was actually a friend of mine that recommended we come to Frome because of the vast amount of talented people.”
Norman Elmer of the Frome Musical Theatre Company organised the auditions and the Frome Memorial Theatre Trust hosted the event and helped with the registration. Norman said, “The Britain’s Got Talent research team auditioned 34 acts at Frome Assembly Rooms. The performers were from under 10 to over 70 years of age. The auditions were relaxed and friendly and the BGT team were really impressed with the large number of acts from a town of our size. The majority of the acts were singers, but the BGT team got really excited when there were other types of talent presented. This time there was a pianist and a gymnastic trio.
“Whilst the BGT team were very complimentary they were also very tight lipped about any outcomes. There are many auditions throughout the nation and all of the TV footage is seen by the BGT executive before any decisions are made. Those acts that are successful will be informed before the 7th February 2016 and will be invited to go forward to the televised auditions. The BGT team passed on their thanks to everybody for coming.”
Norman is also helping the Rotary Club of Frome to hold two talent competitions in the town.
The first is the ‘Young Musician of The Year’ to be held at Selwood Academy on Friday 13th November. This is open to children of 11 to 17 and prospective entrants may email Humphrey GandHBarnes@btinternet.com
The other competition is ‘Frome’s Got Talent,’ which will be held in Frome Memorial Theatre on April 24th 2016. If you feel you have the talent and want to perform on stage then email Normanelmer@roddenbury.co.uk There is a cash prize for the Frome’s Got Talent winner.
