Frome’s weather stats for December

REPORTING direct from his own weather station in Frome, our local meteorologist, Michael Cooper, has all the facts and figures for Frome’s weather in December.

Weather statistics for Frome December 2017.

Rainfall:

Rainfall for Frome this December = 118mm.

The average rainfall for Frome over the past 15 years is 97mm. This includes sleet and wet snow which was evident on the morning of Wednesday 27th December.

Therefore December’s rainfall was above that average and the highest since December 2013 which saw 120mm fall.

In 2017 a there was a total of 873.5mm of rain, which is below the average of 974mm for the previous five years.

All readings were recorded from a Met/Check Cu Rain gauge i.a.w. Air Ministry Form 1122.

Temperature:

Highest D.T.T. = 12 Degrees C  recorded at 3pm on Friday 22nd December.

Lowest D.T.T. = 2.0 Degrees C recorded at 3pm on 10th, 11th, 22nd and 28th December.

Highest N.T.T = 12 Degrees C recorded during the night of 22nd/23rd December.

Lowest N.T.T. = Minus 2.0 Degrees C, during the night of 11th/12th December.

It is interesting to note that this December 2017, the average daytime temperature was 6.0 Degrees C, compared to                                               8.5 Degrees C in 2016;                                             11.5 Degrees C in 2015;   and 8.22 Degrees C in 2014.

There were also 12 recorded 12 instances of visible white frosts to ground and roofs at 7am.

All  temperature were recorded from within a S.S. from two different thermometers .

Air Pressure:

Highest Barometric Atmospheric air pressure = 1031mb, recorded 22nd and 23rd December.

Lowest Barometric Atmospheric air pressure = 994mb, recorded Tuesday 26th December.

Wind speed:

Highest Wind speed = 48 m.p.h. Vector Direction N.W. recorded on Sunday 10th December.
