REPORTING direct from his own weather station in Frome, our local meteorologist, Michael Cooper, has all the facts and figures for Frome’s weather in February.
Weather statistics for Frome February 2018.
Rainfall:
Rainfall for Frome this February = 42mm.
This statistic is the lowest since 2013 and is well below the 18 year average of 73.2mm.
There were also three days of minimal rain which were not measureable. In addition, there were two days of snow flurries recorded.
All rainfall readings were taken from a Met/Check Cu Rain gauge i.a.w. Air Ministry form 1122.
Temperature:
Highest D.T.T. = 11.0 Degrees C, recorded at 3pm on Monday 19th February.
Lowest D.T.T. = Minus 1.5 Degrees C, recorded at 3pm on Wednesday 28th February.
Lowest N.T.T. = Minus 5.0 Degrees C, recorded during the night of Monday 26th February.
Highest N.T.T. = 9.0 Degrees C, recorded during the nights of 9th and13th February.
It is interesting to note that the average February 2017 D.T.T. = 7.8 Degrees C. and the average February 2018 D.T.T. = 4.9 Degrees C. indicating a very cold 2018 February.
This very cold situation carried on into March, being the consequence of Sudden, Stratospheric, Warming (S.S.W.).
All temperatures were recorded from within a S.S. from two different thermometers.
Air Pressure:
Highest Barometric Atmospheric air pressure = 1025mb, recorded 4th and 25th February.
Lowest Barometric Atmospheric air pressure = 1002mb, recorded Wednesday 14th February.
Wind speed:
Highest wind speed = 35m.p.h. recorded 11th and 13th February. Vector Direction S.W.
