FROME College student Isabelle Book has been named as Frome’s Young Citizen of the Year by the Rotary Club of Frome Selwood.
Chosen from five candidates, the year 11 student is described as a very busy and inspirational young lady. Isabelle’s achievements on the rugby pitch and her exceptional fundraising for charity impressed the panel of judges.
The Young Citizen of the Year award was presented to Isabelle in memory of former member Eric Cretney by his widow Dot Cretney, who is a member of the Frome Rotary Club and a regular attendee at the Frome Selwood Club.
The evening also saw year 12 student Seb Costello given the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA). Seb attended the RYLA course in Dartmoor in February this year, which is described as character building with a number of outdoor challenges designed to develop leadership skills. Seb was one of six students interviewed for the award.
Communications officer for Frome College, Jane Davis said, “Both students performed brilliantly on the evening and impressed the whole club.”
Rotarians also took the opportunity to wish Frome College principal, Gavin Ball, every success in his new promotion and thanked him for his efforts at the college, and the continual relationship with Rotary.
