VOLUNTEERS and representatives from the churches in Frome will be raising money for Christian Aid this month.
Members from the churches and community will be collecting in the town, villages and churches from Sunday 15th to Saturday 21st May. They will also be holding a sale at the weekly Kindness Café at Wesley Church on Saturday 21st May, from 10am to 12pm.
The theme for this year’s collection is ‘Hunger into hope’ and donations will help support people struggling in Zimbabwe.
On behalf of the group of volunteers, Jean Fraser says, “Christian Aid Week will still happen because, despite all the troubling things that are going on in the world, sadly in places like Zimbabwe, due to drought, parents are struggling to feed their families.
“It is mainly the women who do the farming and with no rain, because of the climate crisis, they cannot grow enough food. However, with the practical help of Christian Aid, it is possible to grow drought-resistant crops, sink wells and receive advice on preserving and storing food.
“We have faced many challenges in the last couple of years and the Covid virus has deeply impacted on our families, churches and the many organisations in and around our town. However, last year, thanks to your generosity, we managed to raise £2,207.94 for Christian Aid to genuinely help others to live better lives.
“This year we shall be collecting in the town again and we are also holding a ‘Kindness Cafe/Sale’ on Saturday 21st May at Wesley Church, (‘top of the hill’) from 10am to 12pm.
“There are the usual refreshments and lots of things to buy at ‘very reasonable prices’! We will be collecting goods to sell on Friday night (20th) from 6.30pm at Wesley. Please come along and support this very positive occasion.”
