ALMOST a year on since receiving his second bone marrow transplant, Frome teenager, Daryl Allinson, is slowly but surely getting back to normal life and has even started going back to school.
Family and friends started a fundraising campaign for Daryl who has a rare form of leukaemia, in June last year, to pay for a bone marrow transplant he urgently needed. In less than a month £90,000 was raised which meant he could begin treatment straight away.
Now, a year since he had the operation, Daryl is settling into life as a normal teenager at home in Frome.
Daryl’s dad, Terry said, “Daryl is still receiving medication but the great news from a recent visit to the children’s hospital in Bristol is that he only has to go once a month now, so we’re really pleased about that.
“He is feeling really good and should be allowed to get back to playing football very soon. He is back at school, but only doing two lessons a day at the moment, as he still gets fatigued.
“His consultant really praised Daryl for how he has coped with everything he has gone through, especially considering it is his second bone marrow transplant. No-one expected him to be at this stage and he has progressed really well.
“The future is looking good for Daryl, but we have been at this stage before, so we’re taking each day as it comes.
“We still can’t believe the generosity of everyone who helped Daryl have his second transplant, and we would like to thank everyone again from the bottom of our hearts.”
Daryl said, “I am feeling really good and I’m looking forward to getting back to normal and being able to do what all my friends are doing.”
