FROME Gateway Club, for adults with learning disabilities, celebrated World Wildlife Day on Sunday 3rd March, with an evening of live animals and crafts.
Members of the club made wildlife animals as well as getting the chance to look at snakes and a Horace, the tortoise and make a range of craft items.
“We made ladybirds and bumble bees from an egg box carton base,” said a spokesperson for the group. “We also made two large wildlife collages. One was taken to a bed-bound member, the other given as a thank you to a band who had come to entertain us the fortnight before.
“We have been running for over 50 years, meeting the social needs of adults with a wide range of learning disabilities. There about 35 members and 15 volunteers meeting on alternate Thursday evenings in Trinity Church Hall.
“Our ages range from 18 to 80, which works surprisingly well with a family atmosphere. We always welcome new members.
“Although part of the national organisation, Mencap, we are self funding, with members paying subs, and helped with occasional grants, donations and our own fundraising.”
