CONTINUING with their local digital support initiatives, Health Connections Mendip are setting up a free Digital Café, to take place at Frome’s Cheese & Grain, every Thursday morning between 10am and 11.30am.
The workshop began on 23rd September and looks to provide those who more technologically unaware with the digital skills they need in order to get the most out of today’s mostly digital world.
“There are roughly 11.3 million people in the UK don’t have the basic digital skills they need to thrive in today’s world,” said Will Palmer Digital Community Connector for Health Connections Mendip.
“A lack of digital skills and access can have a huge negative impact on a person’s life, leading to poorer health outcomes and a lower life expectancy, increased loneliness and social isolation and less access to jobs and education.
“We have listened to what the community want and are working in several ways to support those who feel digitally excluded or who want to feel more confident in the digital world. The result is an all-round service to help support digital inclusion across the Mendip region. An additional part of this service is the creation of the Digital Cafes.
“The concept is for people to come along to the Cheese & Grain with their device and be able to ask questions about ‘how to’, ‘how do I’, ‘can you help me with’ and many others. They can also share their digital journeys and stories with others at the weekly event. You don’t even need to come with your device or a question, just come along and meet new people if you’d prefer.”
