Sisters are definitely doing it for themselves in Frome this year, with a fabulous line up of some of the top females in music playing at the Cheese & Grain.
This month the venue will kick off with Golden Globe and two-time Grammy nominee, country and folk songstress Gretchen Peters on Friday 31st July, a rare Frome appearance.
The latest accolade for the Nashville-based singer-songwriter is her induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in October 2014. There she joins names like Johnny Cash, Rodney Crowell, Don & Phil Everly, Woody Guthrie, Merle Haggard, Tom T. Hall, Kris Kristofferson, Dolly Parton and Hank Williams.
Gretchen has received awards as a songwriter from artists as diverse as Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, The Neville Brothers, Patty Loveless, George Strait, Bryan Adams and Faith Hill.
She has risen to the top of her craft by writing songs that explore the deep corners of life with empathy and integrity. Her music touches on dark realities, yet ultimately it is profoundly beautiful and uplifting.
Other firey female performers scheduled for the year include:
• Carol Decker with T’Pau on Thursday 8th October.
• Irish singing sensation Cara Dillon on Saturday 10th October.
• Blues singer-songwriter Joanne Shaw-Taylor on Thursday 15th October.
• Scottish songstress Eddi Reader on Sunday 8th November.
