Ben Ottewell, of celebrated 1990s indie-rock band Gomez, is returning to Frome this April after his sell-out gig in 2018.
Ben will be back at Rook Lane Chapel, courtesy of local events promoters Showsmiths Ltd, with more of his acclaimed solo material, including songs from his latest album A Man Apart. There will also be another chance to hear some old favourites from the Gomez back catalogue.
‘A Man Apart’ is Ben’s third solo album and crosses musical genres spanning Americana, blues and folk – all brought to life by Ben’s unmistakable gravelly and gutsy vocal style. It delves into love and relationships, fame and politics. The title track deals with the exploitation by politicians of our hopes and fears, ‘Bones’ the realisation of not being worthy of someone. In ‘Own It’, Ben reflects on his time growing up in public eye, in one of the biggest British indie-rock bands of the late 1990s. Gomez fans can expect some old favourites from Ben who has recently completed a comeback tour with his old band mates to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Mercury Prize-winning Gomez album ‘Bring It On’.
Ben will once again be supported by Frome singer-songwriter Al O’Kane as well as a local act, chosen from participants in “Hit the Streets with Frome Busks” on Saturday 30th March.
Ben Ottewell will play at Rook Lane Chapel, Bath Street, Frome on Thursday 4th April 2019. Doors are at 7pm, with performances starting at 7:30pm.
Tickets are £13 in advance via Billetto.co.uk or £15 cash on the door. For more info, follow Showsmiths on Facebook and Twitter.
