AFTER 12 years, Hayesdown First School said a fond farewell to Jon Benger, who has tirelessly supported the school in his role as a school governor.
Jon has been chair of governors for five years, taking on this role as the current head teacher, Mrs Battersby, joined the school in 2018. The school says he has provided excellent support and challenge for the school leadership, working with three different headteachers, to ensure that the children at Hayesdown First School receive an excellent education.
To say thank you, the staff and children gave him a card and a gift voucher to enjoy a meal out in Frome. Members of the school council interviewed Jon to find out more about his role.
Daria asked, “What does a school governor do?” and Jon explained, “The governors help the head teacher and help to run the school.”
Bailey found out that Jon‘s favourite part of his role was, “Coming into school to see the learning and particularly maths.”
Kaila asked Jon, “Have you enjoyed being a school governor?” and learnt that Jon has really enjoyed meeting the children and teachers at Hayesdown.
The school says, “All the staff and children at Hayesdown First School would like to say a huge thank you to Jon and wish him well in the future.”
Jon commented, “Hayesdown is an excellent school, full of children who enjoy learning and teachers who enjoy teaching. It has been a pleasure to see the school go from strength to strength and I know that the new chair of governors will carry on supporting the school as I have.”
Mrs Battersby said, “Jon has been a dedicated member of the governing body and has given his time freely to support the local community. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with him over the past five years. We wish him well in his new adventures and of course we are inviting Jon back to Hayesdown as part of our 50th birthday celebrations in May 2024, so we look forward to seeing him again then.”
