A FROME GP has grown a moustache for ‘Movember’ to help raise awareness about men’s health.
Tom Cahill, a doctor at Frome Medical Practice, grew his ‘mo’ as part of a worldwide campaign that encourages men to take their physical and mental health more seriously.
Dr Cahill practices with an interest in men’s health, musculoskeletal problems, urology and providing a vasectomy service.
He told Frome Times, “The state of men’s health is in crisis. Men experience worse longer-term health than women and die on average six years earlier.
“Prostate cancer rates will double in the next 15 years, and testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50.
“Three quarters of suicides are men, and poor mental health leads to half a million men taking their own life every year. That’s one every minute.
“Small changes can make big differences to men’s health and wellbeing. Men over the age of 40 can go to their health centre for a free NHS Health Check to screen and advise on obesity, diabetes and risk of heart disease.
“For more holistic check up and advice men can contact Health Connections Mendip.
“For other health worries they should make a GP appointment or have a look at these useful websites: www.menshealthforum.org.uk , www.movember.com and www.thecalmzone.net ”
