ONE Frome resident has wowed crowds and raised money for charity with his Grinch-themed Christmas lights display!
Tony Hodges raised £350 for Cornpop Critter Rescue and Cancer Research UK with a big lights switch on evening earlier this month.
Special guests including Santa, Mrs Clause and Olaf from the film Frozen enjoyed carol singers before a grand switch-on.
Tony said that the display was in memory of his late friend, Amanda Smith.
“Amanda was a wonderful person who did a lot of lovely things for people in Frome,” he said. “I thought it was a nice way of remembering and honouring a lovely woman who loved Christmas. Amanda unfortunately died on the 9th September this year.”
Money raised from the event will go to Cancer Research UK and Frome- based animal rescue charity, Cornpop Critter Rescue.
“I’ve chosen Cancer Research UK again as they have helped me through some of the toughest times of my life,” explained Tony, who was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer 15 years ago.
“Any money I raise for charity is an added bonus – I put these displays on to spread a little bit of cheer around Christmas, as it’s not always a great season for everyone, and it’s a nice thing to do. It makes all the hard work preparing the display and the electricity bill worth it!
