Local community group Sustainable Frome is inviting people with a passion for ‘One Planet’ living to help organise a themed monthly meeting.
The group has over 500 members and monthly meetings provide an opportunity to share ideas, meet people, learn about different issues and plan ways for Frome to reduce its environmental impact and enhance wellbeing.
Co-director Rachel Bodle said, “Next year’s programme covers a wide range of topics including ‘Health and Happiness’, waste, food, ‘land-use and wildlife’, water, ‘culture and heritage’ and energy. We would love to hear from anyone who’d like the opportunity to shape a discussion, show a film, or invite a speaker on one of these themes.”
Co-director Roger Saunders said, “It’s amazing what can come out of our meetings. Over the past few years connections made within the group have helped to kick start and support a wide range of projects; from Incredible Edible Frome to Frome Renewable Energy Co-op to Independents for Frome.
“There are so many benefits to reducing our impact, from better air quality to improved health and wellbeing to a stronger and more resilient local economy, and with the diversity of topics being discussed there’s something for everyone.
“At our next meeting on Thursday 1st September we will be exploring sustainable materials and how we can use these in our homes. We’ll be joined by experienced green architect Terry Pinto and Frome based plastic recycling pioneers Protomax. Do join us if you can (at Sun Street Chapel).”
The monthly meetings held on the first Thursday of every month with food to share at 6.45pm, notices at 7.30pm and talks and discussions from 8pm. The meetings are free to attend and open to all and, apart from September and November, will be held in Frome Cricket Club, which is fully accessible.
