FROME and Midsomer Norton Guide Dogs for the Blind Association raised £777.47 last month, in a collection at Sainsbury’s in Frome.
The collection was held on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th July. Treasurer of the Association, Susan said, “Guide Dogs for the Blind held a very successful collection and thank Sainsbury’s for allowing the team to raise funds and awareness of the work of the Association. The collectors were accompanied at times by working guide dogs who were happy to be stroked by adults and children. Despite the difficult times many of us are experiencing, the customers of Sainsbury’s were incredibly generous and a magnificent £777.47 was raised.”
A guide dog user Antony Quant, explained how his dog helps him in his daily life, saying, “I’ve had Hector for six years, not only does he help retain my independence, such as commuting to work, getting to shops but also, he is my best companion and a real member of the family. I love doing fundraising for Guide Dogs because it makes me feel like I’m giving back for what Hector gives to me.”
The money collected will go to raising, training and supporting another dog to assist a visually impaired person achieve the same amount of independence experienced by Antony and all the other dog owners.
