A LOCAL man is raising money for two charities by selling his handmade birdboxes.
Money raised from the sale of the bird breeding boxes, made by Anthony House, is divided equally between Friends of the River Frome and Children’s Hospice South West.
Anthony, who has so far has raised £200 says, “If you would like to help wildlife, plus these two very worthwhile charities, place an order via Anthony-house@sky.com. But get in early before I run out of timber and time!”
The unique boxes – made from a range of materials including brand-new exterior plywood sheets and old fencing panels strips – come in a number of sizes to suit a range of birds from the blue tit, through to birds of prey like tawny owls, barn owls and kestrels.
About his blue tit boxes, Anthony says, “These little birds can’t seem to resist, as within the time it takes me to fetch a camera to take a photo, having placed them on an outside shelf, there’s already a blue tit looking in the entrance hole!”
Anthony has been making bird breeding boxes for many years, mainly for dippers, placing them under river bridges in the Frome area. He has also made owl boxes, which were placed in farmers’ trees – with one becoming home to a tawny owl. He has also previously made boxes for Children’s Hospice South West, to allow children to enjoy watching blue tits nesting.
