LEGENDARY Manchester band, Happy Mondays, are heading up a jam-packed calendar of events for Christmas in Frome.
Pantomimes, live bands, Christmas carols, a classic Christmas film, are all coming up for Frome, and are sure to get you in the mood for the festive period.
The Happy Mondays will be performing all their greatest hits to a sold out crowd at the Cheese & Grain on 18th December – but for those who have missed out on tickets, there are still a whole host of other events to attend this festive season.
Other live music acts at the Cheese & Grain include ska legends Bad Manners, folk from Steeleye Span, a magical evening promised with A Christmas Evening with Merrill Osmond, the hilariously brilliant Cuban Brothers, talented young bands performing at Rural Music Network, Dub Pistols, and a New Year’s Eve performance by the Unravelling Wilburys. At the Memorial Theatre, Frome Musical Theatre Company are promising a ‘knee-slapping’ time with their annual pantomime, which this year is Beauty and the Beast, which runs from 29th December to 4th January.
The venue is also hosting a children’s Christmas party on Saturday 21st December in the Assembly Rooms – and there might even be an appearance from the big man himself, Father Christmas!
The Merlin Theatre’s Christmas show this year is inspired by the traditional Grimm brothers’ tale, Cinderella. A total of 40 local performers will be taking to the stage from 5th December to 14th December – and the show promises to be a singing and dancing sensation! The theatre will also be showing the classic Christmas film, It’s a Wonderful Life on Thursday 19th December.
Frome Ukulele Club will be raising money for Fair Frome this festive season with performances at The Granary (6th December) and The Cornerhouse (20th December) – and the club are promising ‘Christmas Carnage’ with up to 40 people performing news songs and a few Christmas favourites.
Over at Rook Lane Chapel, legendary violinist and ex-member of folk-rock band Steeleye Span, Peter Knight, and leading melodeon player and ex-Bellowhead member, John Spiers, will be performing together on Thursday 12th December.
At Cooper Hall, saxophonist Iain Ballamy and pianist Jason Rebello will get audience members in the Christmas spirit with carols ranging from Little Donkey to John Rutter carols.
