After the excesses of Christmas and the New Year, the Frome Medical Practice has announced Tuesday 14th January as the town’s Health Day.
This will provide the opportunity for the residents of Frome to make the effort to get their bodies and minds back into better shape.
One of the organisers of the event is health care assistant Emma Yeo. She said, “The event is taking place at the Health Centre at Enos Way from 10.00am to 5.00pm on Tuesday 14th January.
“It is free to everyone. There will be the opportunity for our patients to have a blood test to check cholesterol and glucose, lung function test, carbon monoxide test, blood pressure test and also the chance to have a consultation with a specialist on how to stop smoking. Health walks are also planned to take place at 12.00noon and 2.00pm.
“We are aware from our records that we do not see some patients for many years at a time. These are the patients that we would really welcome on our Health Day.
“We are giving the opportunity for patients to have a general check and also to come and discuss their diet, fitness levels as well as general lifestyle. It is also planned for Fresh Steps (advising on food and diet) as well as Fit Frome to be present at the event. No appointments are necessary for anything, just turn up!’’
One of the partners at the practice is Dr Tom Cahill. He said, “Our Health Day is a serious project. Our ethos is all about healthy living and healthy lifestyles.
“We are pleased to report that we will have professional health trainers available (who will also be able to advise on alcohol consumption). Befriending services such as Active and in Touch will also be there.
“In addition, it is envisaged that there will also be teams there from Health Walks and the Emotional Wellbeing Project. This is a great opportunity for everyone to come and see the kind of help and support (and fun!) that is available to them. It also provides the chance to come and see the health centre and the self-help services that are now available for all our patients, from baby-weighing to education and research at our information hub.
“We are also hoping that representatives will be present from our Patients’ Participation Group. It is important that we have feedback from our patients, so that we can constantly improve the level of service that we provide.”
